The way builders hire is broken.

It’s set up so agencies and job boards get paid, good crew or not.

  • Agencies get paid either way.

They take a cut of the salary. Stays a decade or walks in a month, they’re paid.

  • Job ads bring the wrong people.

You pay to post and get tyre-kickers and no-shows.

  • The good ones aren’t looking.

They’re busy on someone else’s site. Post and pray, and you’ll never meet them.

  • Nobody plans day one.

They turn up and nobody’s there to meet them. Two weeks later they’re gone.

You’ve run another ad. You’ve rung another agency. Still short on crew. The system is the problem.

Hire right. Hire once.

Five steps, built from over a decade of construction recruitment and 1,000+ placements.

  1. Brief first.

Write down the trade, site, pay, start date and must-haves before you write a word of the ad.

  2. Go and get them.

Search Indeed and LinkedIn for good people, including the ones who aren’t looking.

  3. Ads that get replies.

Lead with the site, the work and the pay. No corporate waffle.

  4. Screen hard.

Catch red flags early with questions only someone who’s done the work can answer. Ring a real foreman for references.

  5. Lock it in.

Start date in writing. The first 14 days planned, so they stay.

Run it yourself, or hand some or all of it to Robert.

12+ years on the tools. 10+ years filling construction roles.

I’m Robert Muckian. I spent 12+ years on the tools before I moved into recruitment.

Since then I’ve spent over a decade recruiting for construction. I’ve worked as an in-house senior recruiter and business development consultant, a freelance senior construction recruiter for agencies across the UK and Ireland, and a recruiter for subcontractors. In Australia I’ve done flat-fee and margin placements in multiple locations, including the Gold Coast.

I’ve placed 1,000+ trades, labour and management staff with contractors including Carey Group. Now I’m based on the Gold Coast, with a second base in Belfast, and I’m showing builders how to hire the way I do.

Straight answers

What is HiredConstruction?

A construction hiring business based on the Gold Coast, Australia, with a second base in Belfast, Northern Ireland. We help builders, trades businesses and contractors in Australia, the UK and Ireland hire good people who stay.

Is it a recruitment agency?

Partly. With Done For You, we fill roles for a set fee per hire, and the fee doesn’t go up with the salary. We also teach the system and can build your own hiring team, so you need agencies less.

What does a recruiter charge for a construction hire?

With Done For You (Crew Filled) you pay a set fee per hire, not a percentage of salary: from $4,000 + GST per hire in Australia, or from £999 per hire in the UK and Ireland, depending on the role. The fee doesn’t go up with the salary.

Which option should I choose?

Want advice on one role: The Hiring Fix Call. Want to run it yourself: the course. Want it handled: Done For You. Want free job tools now and hiring software later: The Crew Builder. Not sure? Book my free discovery call (opens Calendly in a new tab).

How much does it cost?

Every price is in the options section, in AUD and GBP.

HiredConstruction is new. Why should I trust you?

Fair question. HiredConstruction is new, so there are no client reviews yet, and we won’t make any up. What there is: Robert Muckian, the founder. He spent 12+ years on the tools, then over a decade in construction recruitment, placing 1,000+ trades, labour and management staff with contractors including Carey Group. He’s based on the Gold Coast, with a second base in Belfast.

Is the discovery call really free? Will I get a hard sell?

Yes, it’s free: 15 minutes, by phone, and Robert rings you at the time you book. No hard sell. If a paid option fits, he’ll tell you what it costs. If nothing fits, he’ll say so.

I’ve been burned by agencies. Why is this different?

With Done For You you pay a set fee per hire. It doesn’t go up with the salary. Or skip outside help: learn the system yourself, or have us build your own hiring team.

I haven’t got time for this.

The call is 15 minutes, at a time you pick. If you’d rather not run hiring at all, Done For You handles it for you.

Do you give legal or employment advice?

No. This is practical hiring guidance. It isn’t legal advice. For awards, contracts and employment law, check the Fair Work Ombudsman (or Acas in the UK) or ask a qualified adviser.
